What is Good Writing?

Much can be said when it comes to the topic of good writing. The answer is not necessarily one of fact, but rather an opinion. Some people may simply define good writing by how technically correct the text is, or how accurate the statements are. I do not view it this way. The quality of writing, in my opinion, is so much more about how it sounds, how it feels as the words and phrases roll off the tongue or pass through the mind.
The foundational writing and gramatical skills one must master to be considered a tecnhically proficient writer can enhance the natural beauty of one's unique voice. Mistakes can distract from good quality writing and take away from the captivating message of an untold story. Technical excellence and inspired artstry can marry into a truly wonderful piece of literature.
The quality of one's writing cannot fairly be measured on a scale of numbers or letters, because one can be wrong in the eyes of grammar or organization rules, while somehow constructing a piece of literature which has the power to move a person, to grab one's attention or change an opinion. The purpose of writing is to be able to convey a thought or idea in a way that can be understood by another. It is an art-form for the least artistic of people. An art-form? Yeah that's right, I said it. I believe writing is art. The way a piece of writing can make you joyful, or sad or angry: that's the art. The way it can leave you thinking for hours after you're done reading: that's the art. When reading a group of words written on a page, posted on a website, or scratched on the wall of a forgotten building, can evoke an emotional or physiological response... THAT is good writing.
